Hampshire Mosque was established in Ramadan 2004, and utilized rented space in Amherst for its first 10 years. The mosque is the focal point for the region’s Muslim community, providing space for daily and Friday prayers, hosting Ramadan iftars (breaking of the fast) and tarawih prayers, and offering lectures and other outreach to the wider Amherst and Pioneer Valley community.
In early 2014, the Hampshire Mosque purchased the property at 451 Russell Street in Hadley. By God’s will, the generosity of members and their extended families, the kindness of supportive friends from the larger community, the mosque opened its doors to its new permanent home in 2018.
